Reducing Reoffending and Crime

01 November 2021

Play your part by becoming a trustee with YouTurn Futures

YouTurn Futures is looking for up to four new trustees to make a difference by becoming a trustee of the local criminal justice charity

Launched in 2014, YouTurn Futures is an exciting, innovative charity that aims to reduce reoffending and crime, combat anti-social behaviour and promote social inclusion.

We deliver a range of frontline services to support offenders and vulnerable individuals. This includes:

  • Direction for Bedfordshire, a dedicated confidential service offering free guidance in signposting individuals to support, including recovery from addiction, help with employment, financial advice, health and wellbeing support
  • Conditional Cautioning, which provides 1-2-1 sessions and rehabilitative opportunities to offenders before they find themselves within the Criminal Justice System and court process
  • Supported Pathway, a scheme which offers 1-2-1 support to people aged 16 – 25, helping them to turn their lives around, build their self-esteem and move away from crime
  • Departure Lounge, working with other professionals to support people on release from prison
  • Co-ordinating the delivery of Bedfordshire’s Integrated Offender Management Scheme, a partnership approach involving police, probation, statutory and voluntary agencies to manage offenders causing the most harm to communities.
  • Co-ordinating the delivery of police and council plans to deliver reductions in all forms of exploitation.

The trustee role – what is involved

We are looking for individuals from all walks of life to bring their experience of life to provide oversight and direction to the work of the charity. We would particularly like to hear from you if you are from an underrepresented community in Bedfordshire or you have lived experience of the criminal justice system. We are also keen to recruit trustees who have a financial or marketing background.

The commitment involved is to prepare for and attend 4 quarterly online/in person meetings a year. The meeting agenda includes setting the strategic direction of the charity to help deliver its services effectively, reviewing performance and financial information, understanding and mitigating risk and ensuring the charity is well led.

In between meetings trustees may lead on particular projects to help develop and grow the charitable work of YouTurn.

You will find the role for YouTurn Futures Trustee on our volunteering platform, Simply Connect where you can register an interest and also view other opportunities on the platform.  YouTurn Futures will get back to you about what happens next.

We currently have over 30 trustee vacancies listed with us in Bedfordshire.
